An international boutique fine art advisory and dealership is looking for a Chief of Staff to join their established and expanding team. The company, which has been based in Mayfair for ten years but has an international outlook and particularly USA focus, is exceptionally dynamic and has been experiencing a period of intense growth. Beyond the art focus, the two principals have a diverse range of business and personal interests and the Chief of Staff will join at a senior level to facilitate structure, organisation and efficiency across the wider business and activity streams. The Chief of Staff will be a trusted member of the leadership team and have a range of responsibilities across the group, with a particular focus on managing finance and people.
In regard to finance, the Chief of Staff will have a central role in daily business operations and organising and directing how funds are managed across the company, wider group, and the private offices of the two principals. The CoS will be responsible for issuing a daily morning financial report to the board and for pro-actively responding to a changing financial forecast. The Chief of Staff will be experiences in budget management, capable of identifying financial problems in advance, and able to respond appropriately and creatively. In this, they will also be a strategic advisor to the board. Further, the CoS will fulfil a vital role in liaising with the external accountancy firm, including instructing the bookkeeper and collaborating on reporting, annual accounts, cash flow and strategizing.
For people management, the CoS will be responsible for streamlining the onboarding of new colleagues and working with the General Manager to ensure that new employees have the appropriate resources and permissions. The business operates across several jurisdictions and the CoS will ensure that new colleagues have the appropriate contract and set-up according to where they will be working. The business has a fast-paced environment throughout the year and the CoS will be a senior confidante able to identity, respond and resolve any internal tensions that may naturally arise. In this, the CoS will insulate the board and core business from any disturbance and ensure that the team is working harmoniously towards shared goals.
The CoS will ensure the company and wider group’s compliance with legal and regulatory requirements within the various jurisdictions of operation and work closely with its legal and financial advisors. The CoS will use this knowledge to inform the business’s long-term strategizing and future proofing. They will have experience of managing a portfolio of entities and how they interact. Further to this, as the CoS’s role will bridge the principals’ personal and business interests, they will work with the principals’ personal team to manage different kinds of international assets such as cars, yachts, wine, real estate and venture capital.
As a dynamic and growing company, the company is looking for a CoS who is technologically savvy and open to learning and also teaching smart ways of working. As an adjunct to being a core project and people manager, the CoS will be responsible for managing the IT contracts.
Any candidate must be willing to work flexible hours according to the principals’ time zones and willingness to travel as needs be. They must have proven similar leadership role within the HNW, luxury or family office sector. They must operate with the highest levels respect, discretion and confidentiality, and understand the nuances of how different kinds of information are considered confidential. They must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have a positive and collaborative energy.
